1. Set up your work space
Ensure that your work space is well-ventilated; it is best to work outdoors or in a room with windows and a fan. The area that you are working on should be metal, wood or concrete. (Do not work on glass or paper.)
2. Take the necessary precautions
As acrylic glue is toxic and there may be sanding involved, users should wear gloves, safety goggles and a face mask.
3. Check the condition of your acrylics
The acrylics you are planning to glue together should be flat, as it would be easier for the glue to adhere if there are no bumps or cuts. Next, use alcohol to remove all dirt and dust before applying the glue.
4. Do a dry run without glue
Join the acrylic pieces together without glue first to visualise how the final product will look like, and where to apply the glue.
5. Apply the glue and allow it to cure
Once you are ready, apply the glue along the edges where the acrylic pieces meet. Hold them tightly together for 10 minutes to allow the glue to set. After which, leave the structure for 24-48 hours for it to cure.
Selleys Singapore carries a whole range of glues for acrylics which are multipurpose, strong yet flexible and dries clear for a seamless adhesion.
