Solvent based

• Shorter drying times
• Bonds faster
• Flammable - precautions have to be taken when handling
• Highly regulated due to environmental concerns

Water based

• Longer drying times
• Has to be fully dried to achieve optimum adhesion
• Water-resistant
• Prone to surface contamination - more care has to be taken during application

 

Tips for using contact glue

1. Before applying the glue, ensure that the position where both surfaces are to be bonded are accurate. Contact glues bond surfaces immediately upon contact and you will not be able to change the positioning.
2. Carefully apply even coats of the glue and allow both surfaces to meet.
3. Press or roll on to the surfaces to ensure full contact.
4. Leave them to dry.
